If you don’t understand what some of the notes are, you should ask your drum tutor, or music teacher at school. To put the counting into practice, you could check out these subdivisions exercises and count out loud while you play them.
Count Quarter Notes
1 2 3 4
Count Eighth Notes
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
Count Quarter Note Triplets
1 TRIP LET 2 TRIP LET 3 TRIP LET 4 TRIP LET
Count Sixteenth Notes
1 E + A 2 E + A 3 E + A 4 E + A
Counting Faster Music Notes
Counting any faster than sixteenth notes is not really worth it unless you are playing really slow, because you would get out of breath to say it or it would be too fast to think it. However, you could count every other note by using the counting method for half its value. For example, for 32nd notes, use the counting method for 16th notes. Another example is for Sextuplets (groups of 6) use the triplet (groups of 3) counting system for every other beat.
