Practice Drumming In Time With a Metronome
Last updated on October 29, 2009 at 10:08 pmNext time you practice drums, hook up a metronome to your headphones or speakers and start drumming along at 70bpm. Make sure the volume of the click is similar to the volume of the drums.
The key to playing accurately with a click track is to be so tight with the click that the sound of it moulds in with the beats you are playing on the beat, making it appear that the click sound isn’t there. It’s a great feeling if you achieve this but it can also give you a nervous feeling that at any point you might start to sway off the beat. It is important to practice with a metronome regularly so that you break through this feeling.
Practice drums with a metronome at various speeds so that you are comfortable and in time with a range of speeds, such as from 40bpm to 200bpm. You will notice that the slower beats per minute speeds are harder to keep in time with due to a bigger gap between each clicking sound.
