Open handed drumming practice can improve your weaker hand
Last updated on September 18, 2009 at 1:58 amTry playing the high hat with your weaker hand (the left hand if you are a right hand drummer) in grooves instead of your strong hand. This is called open handed drumming. It is great practise for getting both hands to be more equal rather than your weaker hand lagging behind.
Notice how the whole kit opens up when playing grooves. Try adding bits of toms or ride cymbal with your right hand during grooves.
After a while of open handed playing, switch back to the old way of playing and notice the improvement in how easier it feels to play the drums.
