How to be a good drum teacher
Last updated on September 5, 2009 at 11:36 pmA good drummer doesn’t always make a good drum teacher. You need to have patience, good communication skills and have a way of explaining things is a clear and simple way.
You should aim for your pupils to be dedicated and enjoy their instrument while helping them to achieve and feel like they are doing well. You could coach them with a mixture of your own made lesson content, along side learning songs and perhaps grade exams if they are interested.
Learn Drums For Free recommends teaching Rockschool Grades for drums. Anyone can enter the exams, so new teachers can register pupils for these grades. Drummers should be of at least grade 6 level (grade 8 is the highest) themselves before considering teaching another drummer how to play the drums.
